Pencraig Campsite

Isle of Anglesey

Simple, well-run family campsite near Valley on the west of the island

About Pencraig Campsite

Pencraig is a smaller, more straightforward campsite at Valley, towards the western end of Anglesey and a few miles inland from Holyhead. It is the kind of site that suits people who want a level field, clean facilities and a low nightly rate rather than an entertainment programme. Pitches are grassy and open, with electric hook-ups available, and there is room for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes.

Facilities are kept deliberately simple: modern toilet and shower blocks, hook-ups, and a genuinely dog-friendly policy that makes it popular with walkers. There is no pool or on-site shop of any size, but Valley has a supermarket, a garage and pubs within easy reach, and Holyhead is only ten minutes up the road for anything else. The site's plainness is reflected in the price, which is among the more reasonable on the island.

What you are paying for here is position. RSPB South Stack and the seabird cliffs are around fifteen minutes away by car, Holyhead Mountain and Breakwater Country Park a similar distance, and the beaches at Trearddur Bay and Rhosneigr are both within a quarter of an hour. That makes Pencraig a strong base for anyone here to walk the western section of the Anglesey Coastal Path, watch birds in spring, or surf and paddleboard on the west-coast beaches. Being slightly inland, it is also better sheltered from Atlantic wind than the sites right on the shoreline, which is worth having in a tent outside high summer.
