Grawen Caravan & Camping Park

Mid Glamorgan

Simple family-run farm site by Llwyn-on Reservoir below Pen y Fan

About Grawen Caravan & Camping Park

Grawen is a working farm site at Cwm Taf, about three miles north of Merthyr Tydfil on the A470 and a short walk from Llwyn-on Reservoir. It is a straightforward, family-run park rather than a polished holiday complex, and that is precisely its appeal: level fields, mature hedges, plenty of space between pitches and a price that has stayed sensible. Standard grass pitches and electric hook-up pitches are available, taking tents, caravans and motorhomes, with pitches for two people starting from around sixteen pounds a night.

Facilities cover the essentials well. There are hot showers, clean toilets, a launderette, phone charging points and chemical disposal, along with a small shop stocking basics. The site is graded three stars and does not pretend to offer more than it does, but the buildings are kept in good order and the owners are helpful about weather and route advice. Dogs are welcome on leads, and the surrounding farm tracks make for easy evening walks.

The position is the strongest argument for booking here. The Taff Trail passes within a few minutes, the reservoir circuit gives a flat family walk with forest on one side, and the southern approaches to Pen y Fan and Corn Du via the Neuadd valley or the Storey Arms are a ten to fifteen minute drive north. Merthyr Tydfil has a railway station, supermarkets and the Brecon Mountain Railway terminus at Pant. Pre-booking is not always necessary but is worth doing for bank holidays and if you need an electric pitch.
