Peterstone Court Country House & Spa

Llanhamlach, near Brecon · Hotel

Georgian country house on the Usk three miles from Brecon, with a spa in the vaulted cellars and views straight across to Pen y Fan.

About Peterstone Court Country House & Spa

Peterstone Court sits at Llanhamlach on the A40 between Brecon and Crickhowell, a Georgian manor house looking south across the River Usk towards the central Beacons. The setting does a great deal of the work: from the terrace and the south-facing rooms you look directly at the Pen y Fan skyline, and the grounds run down towards the river.

Inside, the house has been kept rather than gutted. Oak floors, marble fireplaces and high ceilings sit alongside modern furniture and a relaxed, unstuffy approach to service. Bedrooms are split between the main house, where the rooms are larger and more traditional, and a converted coach house that suits families and groups better. Sizes and outlooks vary considerably, so it is worth asking about the view when booking.

The spa occupies the old vaulted cellars and includes an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and treatment rooms, with an outdoor hot tub on the terrace. It is a genuine reason to book here rather than an afterthought, and it makes the hotel work as well in January as in July. The restaurant leans heavily on the estate and local farms, with meat from the family's own farm at Glasbury appearing regularly on the menu.

The hotel suits couples wanting a country house base with somewhere to recover after a day on the hills, and it works for small family groups too. Walkers appreciate being a ten-minute drive from Brecon and half an hour from the Storey Arms. It is not a budget option, and weekends in summer command a premium, but midweek and off-season rates are considerably more reasonable.
