Award-winning eco campsite on an organic farm, five minutes from the north Norfolk coast

About Deepdale Camping & Rooms

Deepdale Camping sits on an organic working farm in the village of Burnham Deepdale, right on the A149 coast road between Brancaster and Burnham Overy Staithe. It has around 85 pitches spread across six grassy paddocks, with a mix of standard and larger pitches and a choice of hedged or open positions. Tents, trailer tents, campervans, motorhomes and larger RVs are all accepted, but caravans are not — this is a deliberate policy and worth checking before you book.

The facilities are better than the size of the site suggests. Shower blocks have underfloor heating, which makes a real difference in April and October, and electric hook-ups are available on a proportion of pitches. The site shares a courtyard with a supermarket, a café serving breakfast and lunch, an information centre, bike hire and a run of small independent shops, so a car is not essential once you have arrived. Dogs are welcome. There is no swimming pool and no dedicated playground, which fits the quiet, walking-and-birdwatching character of the place. The site has picked up AA Small Campsite of the Year awards in recent years.

The location is the strongest argument for booking. The Norfolk Coast Path runs immediately behind the site, the salt marsh and coastal footpath are a five-minute walk, RSPB Titchwell Marsh is a couple of miles west and Holkham is about fifteen minutes by car. Burnham Market, with its galleries and delicatessens, is two miles inland. Prices start from around £14 per person per night in low season, rising substantially in July and August, when booking several months ahead is essential.
