The Grove occupies a Georgian and part-medieval house in 26 acres of gardens and meadow just outside Narberth, roughly in the middle of the county and looking north towards the Preseli Hills. It is the most polished hotel in Pembrokeshire and makes no attempt to be a beach hotel — the nearest coast is a twenty-minute drive — trading sea views for space, grounds and a kitchen that people travel for.
Accommodation is spread across the main house, a set of restored cottages and converted outbuildings, giving a mix of period rooms with four-posters and larger, more contemporary suites. Standards are consistently high: proper linen, real fires in the public rooms, decanters of local gin, and staff who manage the difficult trick of being attentive without hovering. Several cottages take dogs, and the larger suites work for families who want a country house rather than a resort.
The restaurant is the reason many guests book. It draws on a kitchen garden on site, meat and dairy from within a few miles, and day-boat fish from the Pembrokeshire coast, served as both a carte and a tasting menu. There is a second, more relaxed dining option in the Artisan Rooms, and breakfast is unhurried and generous.
The setting suits couples and small groups wanting a base for exploring inland Pembrokeshire and the Preselis, with Narberth's delis and independent shops five minutes away and Tenby, Saundersfoot and the Daugleddau estuary all within half an hour. Expect country house pricing, particularly at weekends and in high summer, and expect a two-night minimum for Saturday stays.
