Five-pennant park near Woodbridge with a private lake, sandy beach and nine-hole golf
The Moon and Sixpence sits in wooded parkland at Waldringfield, a few miles from Woodbridge and close enough to the River Deben for a morning walk down to the water. It is a privately owned park that has held a five-pennant AA rating, and the standard of upkeep is what that suggests. The site is largely given over to around 250 holiday homes and lodges, with roughly 50 pitches set aside for touring caravans and motorhomes, which keeps the touring field noticeably quieter than a big commercial park.
The facilities are the standout feature. A large Norwegian-style cabin with a grass roof houses the washblock, arranged as individual toilet and shower cubicles rather than a communal room, with well-equipped accessible facilities and mother-and-baby rooms. There are extensive laundry and dishwashing areas. On the recreation side, the park has its own private lake with a sandy beach, a nine-hole golf course, three hard tennis courts, a bowling green, basketball and volleyball courts and two adventure playgrounds, which is an unusual amount of ground for a Suffolk site.
Touring pitches are generous and many have electric hook-up, with hardstanding available. Note that the park's policy is oriented towards owner-occupiers and their guests, so it is worth confirming touring availability directly before setting out. Dogs are welcome on leads and there is plenty of space to walk them. The location works well for Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge, Orford and the whole Deben estuary, with Aldeburgh around half an hour up the coast. It suits families with younger children and anyone who wants facilities on site rather than a bare field.
